Good morning.  Today is Friday, April 16^th  , 2010.  

 

Henry Mancini, a composer and conductor has a birthday today.  He is known for a song he wrote that is used for a colorful cartoon about a certain type of feline.  There has also been a movie or two made about this character, and this character can even be seen on a certain brand of house insulation.  Do you know what the character is?   The answer is on the bottom of the announcements that can be seen on the Tiger Talk Blog.

 

Please check lost and found for missing items.  A pair of eyeglasses have also been found and are in the office.

 

Due to poor road conditions, the buses will be picking up and dropping  students off on Main Street across from the park.   Students will walk to and from school under supervision similar to last year.

 

Dakota Step tests continue today.  Keep doing your best.  Good luck.  Please pick up your snacks from the kitchen right away this morning.  At the end of testing today, please return all tests to Mr. Dalchow’s office. Teachers please e-mail your list of all test makeups to Mr. Hamiel today.

 

For those of you who have not reached your AR goals yet, you have until Friday, April 30^th to get there.  Starting May 1^st we will have a contest for the month where everyone starts over and prizes will be awarded for goals reached for the month of May.  Those that reached the Super Goal, you will be ordering your prizes the first week in May so that you receive your books by the end of the school year.

Starting tonight, due to poor road conditions, the buses will be picking up and dropping  students on Main Street across from the park.   Students will walk to and from school under supervision similar to last year.

 

Due to the track meet today, students need to stay off the field and away from the throwing areas.  Please listen to any coaches that tell you to back away from certain areas today as this is for safety purposes.

Congrats to the "Out of the Boxers" DI team that placed first at State DI in Pierre over the weekend.  This team will travel on to Global Finals in Knoxville, TN at the end of May.  Team members include:  Nathan Fjelstad, Trey Wright, Alex Kern, Madison Sippel, Halie Yarborough, and Kayla Fordham. 

 

The "DI Dancers" Improv team placed 3rd at State:  Congratulations to  Erin Smith, AnneMarie Smith, Alex Stange, Hunter Monson, Mitchell Koens, Hannah Lewandowski and Luke Thorson. 

 

The Groton Breaking DI News team placed 2nd at State:  Congratulations Hayden Anderson, Hailey Bruckner, Lily Cutler, Dakota Gonzales, Landon Marzahn and Jamie Krueger.

 

The Groton Smarties team placed 5th at State:  Congratulations Bailey Zweber, Emma Donley, Erika Binfet, Jessica Adler, Sidney Donovan, Sierra Kamin, and Taylor Holm.

There is getting to be a large number of items in the lost and found.  We have several hundred dollars worth of clothing and jackets.  Please check to see if you are missing anything as there will be a large number of items being shipped to the Salvation Army soon.

 

Those staff members who will be administering the Dakota Step Test that did not go through the training need to contact Mr. Hamiel.  You must attend the training before doing any administering of tests.  There will be a meeting after school today for those that need to sign off on the security agreement.

This Sunday, April 11th, the Sand Lake Wildlife Refuge (north of Columbia) is holding Eagle Day.  It will be held from 1pm to 5pm and feature many different information centers - even live captive eagles.
