Good morning, today is Wednesday, August 31, 2011.

Pop Idell would have had a birthday today.  He is considered the father of modern volleyball.  In other words, how we play volleyball today was invented by this man.  The 100^th anniversary of the volleyball tournament in his name takes place in Pennsylvania this year.  In what year was the first Pop Idell tournament held?  The answer is on the bottom of the announcements that can be seen on the Tiger Talk Blog.

We are finalizing the time for our laptop giveaway.  4 lucky people who took the Dakota Step Test last spring will be winning a laptop later this week.

Did you know that we have read over three hundred and fifty thousand words in the books we have taken AR tests on? 

The math problem of the week is back again in the library.  Remember you can’t win fabulous prizes unless you turn in the answer to the problem each week.

Students not in morning OST should not be arriving at school before 8 AM as there is no supervision. 

Students, .please get your handbook sheet signed and turned in as soon as possible.

Good morning, today is Tuesday, August 30, 2011.

Cameron Diaz has a birthday today.  She was the voice of Shrek’s bride in the Shrek movies.  Do you know what her name was?  The answer is on the bottom of the announcements that can be seen on the Tiger Talk Blog.

We are finalizing the time for our laptop giveaway.  4 lucky people who took the Dakota Step Test last spring will be winning a laptop later this week.

Did you know that we have taken 138 tests for Accelerated Reader  after just 4 days of school?  Way to go!

The math problem of the week is back again in the library.  Remember you can’t win fabulous prizes unless you turn in the answer to the problem each week.

Students:  We want to keep you safe as you travel to and from school.  Please look both ways as you cross the streets.  You need to cross in the crosswalk area.  Watch for cars – they may not see you.  As you come up the school sidewalk, or go to the buses this afternoon, please walk.  We do not want some of our smaller students knocked down.  Students riding bikes, please park your bikes in the bike racks.

Welcome back to school, it is going to be a great year.  Good morning, today is Thursday, August 25, 2011.

Billy Ray Cyrus has a birthday today?  He had a number one country hit back in the nineties, but he is more famous for being the father of Miley Cyrus, a  tv  and movie actress, as well as a teen sensation in the music industry.  Can you fill in the blank of the title of Billy Ray’s number one hit?  The title is,   Achy Breaky Blank.    Do you know what goes in the blank?  The answer is on the bottom of the announcements that can be seen on the Tiger Talk Blog.

Students in grades 4-5.  The Dakota STEP scores are in from last spring and you did outstanding.  Our district was 1 of 5 districts in the state to receive distinguished status.  Way to go!  We will be having an assembly next week to draw for the laptop prizes.  Remember if you did well, or if your class met their goal, you received an entry to win a laptop.  I am happy to say that every student will receive at least one entry.  Remember one lucky person in grades 4^th, 5^th, 6^th , and 7^th will be going home with a laptop next week.  Maybe it will be you!

The Start of a New School Year!

Welcome Back!  I look forward to the upcoming school year and hope that you will come back here each day to check out the elementary announcements.  We have a few new things going on at the elementary.  6th grade has move over to the high school building.  This has enabled us to do some rearranging.  Our 3rd grade has moved over to where 6th grade resided.  2nd grade has moved into the old 3rd grade area, and 1st grade has moved into the old 2nd grade area.  The old 1st grade area has been renamed the Tigers' Den.  The area will be used by our classroom teachers, Title I staff, and Special Ed staff for assessments, working in small groups, makeup tests, and other types of interventions for students.  We have not had a space for this and in the past you found teachers working in hallways, entryways, storage rooms, etc.  The rearrangement of classrooms to get this space is a welcome change and I know that this room will  be constantly utilized.

School starts August, 25th and I look forward to seeing everyone.  If there is ever anything I can help out with, or if you are not sure of something, do not hesitate to call me during school hours or email me.
