We're Baaaack!

With the great efforts of many, Hawthorne students and staff have their third '1st day' of school on Monday, January 22nd- once again at Hawthorne.

Special thanks to the parents who volunteered time, energy and vehicles, Merganthalers for speedy and careful moving, Dick Anderson construction for speedy and careful construction, and all district support staff for easing this migration back across town.

We were grateful that we could all be together at Ray Bjork for the last 2 months, grateful to Charlie Brown and the LDS church for use of their facility, and grateful that we are back home again!

The move back

Hawthorne on the Move?
With work progressing at Hawthorne and no serious findings to extend the time required for construction, we are still looking at January 2nd as having most work completed by the contractors. HOWEVER, the staff and I want the building really ready for the students! Because we don’t have a deadline to be out of our temporary home, we have requested to move at the end of the semester (January 19th). This will allow time for such things as cleaning, reinstalling coat hooks and storage cupboards, etc., and moving over a period of a week rather than a weekend! Students will be attending school as scheduled – with no days off for moving. As the actual moving time approaches, I will give you a complete and detailed schedule of events (including an open house at Hawthorne), and you will notice where we are asking for parent volunteer help. Until then, please plan on the last day at RayBjork as Friday, January 19th and the first day back at Hawthorne as Monday, January 22nd.

Hawthorne is Moving - briefly

Hawthorne School students and staff are relocating temporarily to Ray Bjork Elementary School, 1600 8th Avenue (behind the Pier I shopping center). This temporary relocation is due to the potential of severe damage and injury in the event of a significant earthquake. We are hoping this relocation will not last longer than a month. How can the staff at Hawthorne make this event more comfortable for your children? What might we do to minimize the disruption and maximize learning during this time? We welcome your ideas, assistance and support!

Welcome to Hawblog!

Greetings and welcome to an educational forum about Hawthorne School. This is not another avenue for dates, activities and general information. This is a space where those of us who care for and about the children and community of Hawthorne can meet and discuss ideas, issues, concerns and compliments.

As in school, I (Dr. Deb, the principal), have created some rules!
*No names please. If you need to discuss something specific about a child or your child, call me (406.324.1370 or 406.933.9183), email (djacobsen@helena.k12.mt.us), or come by the office.
*This is not a smash and bash zone. Issues and concerns must be addressed respectfully, and with the intent to be a part of the solution; to positively work together for the good of our children.

I will post weekly at the least, bringing areas for your consideration and input. We all need to work together - this is another way to do just that!

So...welcome to Hawblog with Dr. Deb. I am grateful for your participation!
