Math Madness!

Yes, many of us know about the March Madness NCAA basketball tournament, but did you know that recently at Hanover Street Elem, third grade students participated in Math Madness?  All third grade students, over the course of a week, worked individually and as a team, to solve challenging math problems.  We even enlisted the help of some "future teachers", students at York College, to help score our students' results.  When the final point values were added up, the following students received special trophies or medals.  Those students are...Daisy Mendez, Fabian Lara, Tyler Cloud, Shane Warehime, Michael Torres, Alicia Wilson, Tiffani Little, Matthew Hutton, Adam Bodistow, Justin Martin, Emad Al-Emad, Destiny Shue, Lexi McNally, Guadalupe Michua, Xavier Pauley, Donavon Holmes, Kady Banks, Jessica Martinez, Christian MacIntyre, and Alyson Montour.  Also, the top four students received trophies and will participate in the Regional Tournament to be held at York College this Spring!  Those students are Sara Ginn, Justin Martin, Daniel Gonzalez, and Alyson Montour!  Congratulations to these students and all of our third grade students for a great effort!  Also, good luck to our team representing Hanover Street at the Regional Tournament!

Build-a-Duck Workshop

Today, Mr. Weigle and some of his HS students came to visit first grade students at Hanover Street, Clearview, and Washington Elementary schools.  They have been hard at work making wooden parts for first grade students to assemble a walking wooden duck!  They worked together today to construct their project, and all first graders had a great time and left with a great holiday keepsake!

Snow Days

Due to recent snow days, school will now be in session on April 5 and May 28.  If there are anymore snow days, additional school days will be added on to the end of the year. 

Principal Challenge

Recently Giant foods issued a challenge to local schools and principals.  They were looking for a challenge and Hanover Street has stepped up to the plate.  Some teachers at HSE heard about this opportunity and offered for me, Mr. Hershner, to challenge management from Giant to a Rockband / Guitar Hero Challenge!  Since we were selected for this challenge, Giant has agreed to offer TRIPLE A+ School Rewards points from Mar 1-13.  This can lead to some serious cash for HSE!  The date is set for Mar 11th @ 2pm here at HSE.  We will also be giving a few students an opportunity to show their guitar skills!  Stay tuned for the results and look for more info coming home with students soon!

"Arts" Night - Rescheduled

The Arts Night originally scheduled for March 4th has now been rescheduled.  We are looking at April 6th as a possible new date, but further information will be coming.  The time and location will remain the same...6PM start at Clearview Elem.  We hope to see everyone there for a fun evening sharing our students' artistic, athletic, and musical talents!
