Recently, we received word that Hanover Street Elemenatry meets the eligibility criteria to be considered and recognized as a National Title I Distinguished School for the state of Pennsylvania!
The Division of Federal Programs must identify one school in the state from each of the following categories:
Category 1: School that has exceeded its adequate yearly progress for two or more years
Category 2: School that has significantly closed the achievement gap between student groups.
Schools to represent Pennsylvania are based on exemplary school effectiveness in the following areas:
(1) use of research based strategies;
(2) opportunities provided for all students to achieve;
(3) coordination of Title I with other programs;
(4) implementation of sustained research-based professional development;
(5) established partnerships with parents, families and the community
We have been selected as a nominee specifically for our Hispanic students' performance in both math and reading. Based on their 2009-2010 PSSA performance, the number of our Hispanic students scoring proficient or advanced on the PSSA testing increased in math 32% points, and 25.6% points in reading! This success can be attributed to all of our Hispanic students, parents, teachers, and staff, who help these students overcome language and cultural barriers to achieve academic success!
