Last night's Chill Out and Read Night was a great success. Thanks to all of the students, parents, teachers and school staff who helped make this evening possible. Talking with many students about the evening, it seems that everyone had a great time and enjoyed the stories and activities centered around our theme, penguins! Students and parents were first formed into groups that then rotated to our various stations. One station had students use our new student laptop computers to explore various sites relating to reading and our penguins.
Another station allowed students to gather with Miss White for story time. At this same time, parents could go next door to help themselves to a variety of literature that supplies great ideas for ways parents can make reading fun and easier for their child.
Next stop....SNACK TIME! Students were able to create their own penguin snack using Oreo cookies, M&M's, and candy corn.
Lastly, students moved to the craft station to work collaboratively on their own penguins to take home.
This year, many of our students have been collecting bracelet charms from our reading specialist, Mrs. Mulhollen. They can earn these charms by reading at home and documenting their total time reading. All students who participated at Chill Out and Read earned a very special snowflake charm to add to their collection!
So, stay tuned for the date of our next Chill Out and Read Night, and help spread the word that Hanover Street Elementary loves reading!
