So Many Kindergartners, So Little Room

We have so many neighborhood kindergartners that we are adding a third class of kindergartners for the 2009-2010 school year. The pro to this is that it means much smaller classes. The con is that it means a bubble moving through the grades in subsequent years. One of our kindergarten teachers will most likely teach first grade in 2010-2011 and then we'll assess our numbers from that year forward. We've always known what a great school Randolph Heights is. Now, so does everyone else!

Early Release Day

All students will be dismissed from school at 1:40 on Wednesday, October 29. The enrichment classes that your child(ren) signed up for will be taught during the school day from 9:30-11:30, not after school.

Auction Donations

One of the best nights of the year....the fall dance and silent auction is Friday, November 21st. This is also one of our biggest fundrasiers of the year. The PTA is still accepting donations, so If you have anything you would like to  donate, from dog-walking in a snow storm to hosting a wine party, bring it on in and put it in  one of the silent auction boxes in the school. If it doesn't fit in the box, we'll find a place for it.

Donation deadline is October 31st.

Helmets are a MUST!

If your child is riding his/her bike to and from school, please make sure s/he is wearing a bike helmet. Bike helmets save brains, and while they do cost a few bucks, the cost of neurosurgery far outweights the cost of a  helmet.

Calling all Talent

Enrichment clusters are coming and we are in need of talent. If you have a talent or hobby that you would like to share with our students, bring it on! Enrichment cluster days are October 29, December 10, and April 29. You can teach one 3-hour class or three one-hour classes. Please email Lynn Meixell, our Gifted and Talented Services Specialist at lynn.meixell@spps.org if you would like to participate or if you have any questions.

Let's Walk!

At Randolph Heights, we're all about Wellness. In fact, we're a leader in the district when it comes to being a healthy school. As the healthy staff member of the month, I want to encourage our students and parents who are dropped off and picked up each day to walk at least a few blocks to and from school. You can park on Hamline on the south side of St. Clair and walk with the patrol at 8:45 AM or, as far south as James Ave. at 8:45 AM and pick up the patrol on Hamline. Not only does walking promote a healthy lifestyle, it will help alleviate some of the congestion on Wellesley. It could become a healthy habit...even in the winter!

The Lunch Menu is One Day Off this Week

Due to an oven malfunction yesterday, our school lunch menu is one day off this week. Whatever was on the menu the previous day will be on the menu the next day. So today we are having pasta, tomorrow we are having rodeo beef and beans, on Thursday we are having a turkey corn dog, and on Friday we will have a choice of fish or chicken patty. There will be no pizza this week.

New Signs on Wellesley

The streets are finally paved and the No Parking signs have been removed. However, the city put in new signs along Wellesley that say No Parking, Loading and Unloading Only. I distinctly recall my last conversation with the city engineer regarding the signage, and we agreed there would be no signage at all. I've spoken to them about the new signs, but it will be a while before the engineers can come out and assess the situation. So in the mean time, you cannot park during the day on the school side of Wellesley. Hopefully this will only be temporary, but to avoid a ticket, please park on the north side of Wellesley or beyond the bump-ins. Thank you for being patient while we sort this out with the city.

THANKSgiving Lunch

Thank you to all parents, grandparents, family members, and friends who joined us for Thanksgiving lunch last Thursday. Close to 600 lunches were served in a span of three hours! Even though the city could not have picked a more inconvenient time to pave all roads leading to the front door, you still managed to find a parking space and join us with a smile on your face! We greatly appreciate the extra effort!!

Dance and Silent Auction

This Thursday, November 8 is one of our biggest family events of the year. The silent auction bidding opens at 6:00 p.m. and the 70s dance starts at 6:30. So put on your bell bottoms and platform shoes and boogie with our own Dr. Rock, who will be spinning the music all evening long.

There are some really impressive auction items to bid on and a special KIDS ONLY auction room (no adults allowed) with lots of neat kid things. And sixth graders, you can win a chance to be PRINCIPAL FOR A DAY!

Don't miss it!!
