It was really a great second week of the school year. It is great to get students in classes and observe teachers teaching. This week I had the opportunity to speak to the varsity football team. Annual I talk with the team about a variety of topics. This year I framed my discussion with them around "21 Suggestions for Success." It is attached for you to see. There is allot of truth to the suggestions!

This week a couple of other plans were solidified. Student council met to solidify the homecoming schedule for the week of Sept. 21-25. Homecoming is a fun week for both the students and staff and is already anticipated again this year. Download Homecoming 2009 day by day agenda
Often when students are struggling in a particular class a parent will ask, "What can we do to help my child academically?" At HDHS we have put academic interventions on paper entitled H-D Pyramid of Academic Interventions." Putting these interventions on paper ensures that both parents and teachers are able to survey the same interventions with the same language. These interventions should serve as helpful for struggling students. Download Pyramid of Academic Interventions Revised
Looking ahead to next week Hampton-Dumont School Board elections will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 8th. I would like to publically thank the school board members that will end their years of service to Hampton-Dumont Schools. These board members have dedicated time, energy, and commitment to the district and the progress of students. I have truly appreciated being comfortable in bringing ideas to the board over the years. Furthermore, I respect the tough decisions that the board has made through the years. Thank you Johns Showalter, Ryan Winters and Verla Pecha.
