Week 19-Back to school!

I hope you and your family had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday break.  We have 10 school days left this first semester.  The high school semester is over on Friday, Jan. 14th and the first day of the second semester starts on Tuesday, Jan. 19th.  Monday, Jan. 18th is an in-service day. 

Over the holiday break I had the chance to work on some technology related things.  One thing I was able to do was create groups on my Blackberry so that I can now email all high school staff or substitute teachers in the event of a schedule change or needed sub.  This convenience will save me the time of having to make multiple phone calls.  For Christmas I received a Flip camcorder.  This camcorder served as another neat technology tool I will be able to utilize in the future.  The camcorder is really quite small and simple.  However, the technology that comes with the Flip camcorder is what is amazing to me.  AFter shooting a video you can send the video to anyones email address, create a video greeting card, take a snapshot photo of a video clip, post it to a social networking site, or edit the videos.  All of these options can be done without reading the users manual within a couple clicks of the software program.  Needless-to-say, I was very impressed with this camcorder software and its ease of use.  I have already been able to shoot almost a dozen videos of my daughter and share them with my parents.  


Later this week a district technology team and I will go to the Clear Lake AEA to have a Transforming Schools to the 21st Century work session.  This is after a session before the holiday break facilitated with Dr. Scott McLeod who challenged our thinking related to technology use in schools.  Our assignment for the work session was to create a visual document that will keep the technology transformation at the forefront of our efforts in the school district.  The group has come up with multiple options.  I would welcome thoughts from parents and community people who might have ideas about how to transform our high school.  Which visual do you like best?  Which visual do you question?  What else should we think about as we plan for transforming our high school?
