-----Hampton-Dumont 1:1 Laptop Initiative Information-----
Dear HDHS Parent,
We realize students today are different than they were even a decade ago. They are leading lives entrenched in technology at an ever increasing rate. Today's students are not engaged by traditional teaching methods. They need an active learning experience, preferably one that embraces technology that has become the tools for their lives. As you know, each 9-12th grade student will receive a MacBook laptop computer next year at HDHS.
A successful 1 to 1 learning program matches how our 21st century students interact and
learn. The world is becoming a more diverse, dynamic place with technology blurring the borders and bringing it closer than ever before. The new skill set includes collaborative and creative skills that are unique to this generation, we need to prepare them.
1:1 Goals
1. Increase engagement in the classroom as routinely measured by the Instructional Practices Inventory.
2. Foster 21st Century Skills in our students.
3. Give all students access to a rich technological environment.
4. Promote college and career readiness.
1:1 Rollout Nights
It will be necessary to have a parent or guardian accompany each high school student to pick up his or her laptop the second week of school. Two dates have been chosen to inform students and parents about their new laptop and actually receive their new computer. Those dates include Tuesday, Aug. 24th or Thursday, Aug. 26th. The focus on Tuesday night will be toward 9-10 grade students and parents. And Thursday night toward 11-12th grade students and parents. However, you may come on the opposite night if the prescribed night does not work for you. You will be asked to sign up for the night you plan on coming during fall registration. You may start your two hour session at any time between 4:00-6:00 either night by coming to the high school with your high school student. If you have two children in high school you would only need to attend one night. Parents will be asked to pay a technology users fee prior to receiving a laptop. This users fee will go toward repairing student machines and buying down insurance. During that time four important areas will be focused on:
1. Care and feed of your new laptop
2. Internet safety & School Fusion Classroom website
3. Acceptable uses for the laptop
4. Receiving your new machine
If you have any questions prior to attending on of the rollout nights please call the high school office at 456-4893.
Sincerely,
Trent Grundmeyer
