This Sunday is graduation for the graduation class of 2010. This signifies the closing of one chapter and the starting of the next for our 94 HDHS graduates. An exciting time and possibly an uncertain time for those students as they look forward to finding their way in the world. Good luck to our graduates. Although we can never do enough to effectively prepare you for the real world, your education in the Hampton-Dumont School system will serve you well and provide you the skills to be successful.
I chuckle to think about the stories I hear from my relatives. They often talk about walking to school (back in their day) up hill both ways with no shoes on after they milked the cows in the morning. Whether this was the case or not I may never know. But, what I do know is that the world that our students are now living and growing up in is much different than the work our grandparents grew up in. This year's graduating class never know of bag phones, never remembered life without video games, has always had the Internet, enjoyed the convenience of fast food, witnessed the first African American U.S. president, had raised accountability with No Child Left Behind, and witnessed the legal issues of immigration and gay marriage.
In President Barack Obama's speech to graduating college students he proclaimed, "Each graduate has the ability to write the enxt chapter in America's story." I believe that to be true. Hard work, focused vision, perseverance, and supportive friends and family will allow any graduate to be successful and write their own successful chapter in their life story. On a separate note, the senior class officers decided to make some personalized wall graphics for HDHS that will be posted in the high school cafeteria. And oh have the senior class officers been a pleasure to work with! Below is a sneak peak at what this wall mural will look like.
