Testing! Yuck! Last week and this week, we have been administering the state mandated criterion referenced tests. It takes a real whiz kid (which I am not) to do all the scheduling of who tests when and where and with whom while being monitored by some adult who doesn't need to be doing something else while making the legally mandated and acceptable modifications to testing procedures, AND keeping the rest of the kids in school-- who are not testing--- quiet and orderly (and not like kids at all), AND keeping all the adults in the school from imploding. All this mess has made us all rather testy... did I write that?
Two mornings this week, I have held tight to the covers in my bed and had to literally will myself to get up and go to school... I am, after all, the principal. My inner child whines to my inner parent, "no, no... don't make me go." My inner parent glowers at me, and my inner adult drags me from bed and makes me get dressed. *sigh*
I can only imagine how horrible it is to be a kid during these test obsessed times. And, us adults are sick and tired of it... in fact, we are just downright worn slick. I TRULY understand the term, "Thank God it's Friday!"
My latest professional article was published this month by the American Association of School Administrators; and you can go HERE to read the online version if you are desperate for something of more substance than today's whine.
