Great post! Thanks for the perspective and reminding me what is important. I not only need to hire but make assignments for my existing staff. It is a difficult task but ultimately it is about what is best for the students. matching gifts and styles with grade levels and needs. I knew this in my head but somehow your post connected it with my heart and my moral obligation to fulfill my job as an administrator.

As a principal I always struggled with how much input to seek from staff members when hiring. In most cases I would screen applicants to just a few that I felt really good about then I would invite the teachers to help with the final selection. They were always amazed by how difficult it was to make a final selection.

They developed a real sense of sympathy for the difficult role of the administrator in hiring.
