This is a frightening poll. If we were talking about FINANCIAL autonomy, flexibility, and resource availablity I would probably agree with the majority. However, as I read the issue, it addrsses whether principals have the INTERNAL (not INSTITUTIONAL) flexibility and autonomy to address current accountability expectations.

I must argue that we do indeed have the autonomy. It's a question of self-confidence and the courage to act on one's convictions. The principals of today may be the last hope of significant change taking place.

It may be seen as an act of rebellion, but as I wrote in my post of July 10th, we KNOW what to do. We must now have the courage of leadership to take the ball and run with it.

I understand the results of the poll. Its message seems to say we have principals unwilling to fight the system to save the system. If that's true, then what's the point?
