Kim, I, too, find that many of these skills are necessary prerequisites to the job that I do. Like you, they were skills that were just part of what was expected. This has changed somewhat in the society in which we now live - as can be seen in many of the major headliners of our day - crooked CEO's, narcissist athletes and movie stars, headliners on most of our news stories, etc. Families are being besieged by some many different messages that it is no longer accurate that students will come to school with these skills. I'm not sure if it's a generation gap, since many of the students I deal with still have these skills. I may be just another example of how society is no longer a monolithic structure but a divergent and evolving one.
