Gary-Excellent post! Student engagement is the most critical aspect of learning and the least talked about topic in schools. Engagement is misunderstood and often confused with "activity" or lack there of.

Keeping students busy with technology or offline learning tasks is NOT the same as engaging their hearts and minds. We are obsessed with WHAT we are teaching, when the real focus should be on HOW that instruction(technology and otherwise) is engaging our students in discussion, inquiry, and authentic, productive work.
